Healing vs Treating

We specialize in the complex. Complex skin issues and moving mindsets from the simplistic to a more emotionally mature, as to adjust not only the skin but what’s ailing within. By the time the issue within reaches your skin, you can be sure the body has been screaming to pay attention, to recognize the signs and the strain on the bodily systems.

Treatment and healing are very different. As a holistically practicing therapist and herbalist, my goal is to define what is at the root. Once we can get to the root of the issue, we can heal the cause and not run to treat the symptoms.

What does that look like?

Hypothyroidism.

This is a diagnosis I received early in 2023. I went to a naturopathic doctor, explained how I was feeling (symptoms), and described some other manifestations in my body; e.g. swollen glands in my throat, weight gain, lethargy, etc. The doctor had her nurse take a series of blood tests (to diagnose), and when the tests came back showing the numbers for my thyroid was slightly off (2-3pts), they began to prescribe pharmaceutical medication as a treatment to “bring my numbers back into the normal range”. The moment the results were given to me, I began to research and look for natural alternatives to heal my body. I wasn’t going to accept the medication that is known for little efficacy and people have to take it for the rest of their lives, I wasn’t interested. After taking the medication for 30 days and experiencing heart palpitations, dizziness, and spurts of energy likened to an energy drink - it brings you up to drop you down - I knew that wasn’t the route I would take would be a route that led to more research, and possibly more trial and error, but I knew that I could heal my body.

So, the journey began. My thyroid levels are back in the “normal” range and I am working on continuing to reduce the inflammation in my body. How do I know? My lethargy is gone, my energy levels are back, my focus is sharper and I don’t have trouble swallowing.

I shared my journey so that you could understand the difference between healing your body and treating symptoms. Life is certainly a journey and learning the differences can change the course and quality of your life. Staying the course and making adjustments along the way is a part of the journey. Listend to your body. Get plenty of rest. There is nothing heroic about wearing your body out. It’s the only one we get and although it isn’t perfect, many times, it’s the one we have and we need to hold it in the highest of regards.

I’ll be sharing more education and options as I continue to journey on.

Loving me and you.
