Skin Signals - What is it Saying?

I’ve began sharing indications of stress on the body and how to combat and read the signs. Why is it important you think to pay attention to the skin? Isn’t it just an esthetic and all the beauty trends are showing how to increase or add to it’s beauty? Of course, using makeup and tools to increase, enhance or completely change your skin has been around since “make-up” was a thing.

I focus on healthy skin. Being that it is the largest organ of the body, ignoring the effects of internal issues, and signaling is detrimental. Oftentimes, when we see the internal issues expressed through our skin, it’s a long, tough battle to endure. Listening to what your body is saying is going to help keep your natural skin, and beauty in the best health and help is stay clear.

Especially, in the times of stress, we tend to ignore our health as we go into survival mode. Using what you have and removing heaviness is a way to strengthen your overall health and has a huge impact on your skin health.

Some signs that the body needs a break, a cleanse, time to reset is when you start seeing boils, acne, scarring, discoloration, rashes or other signs that your body is out of alignment. It’s telling you a story or signaling to you that something needs to change or that something has changed that is causing the body’s natural energy flow to shift.

Pay attention.

We’ve normalized acne because we’ve normalized eating junk.

We’ve normalized boils and rashes because we’ve normalized internalizing stress.

We’ve normalized psoriasis, eczema, and other skin conditions because we’ve normalized being out of balance.

We’ve normalized dry skin and dehydrated skin because we have normalized water that doesn’t quench and oils that don’t nourish.

We must begin to think about what we are thinking about.
While our bodies are amazing and will course correct, we must give it an environment in which to heal and nourishment. Food to the body is like a computer decoding and disseminating information: it will break down and process real food. Anything else will act as a virus and destroy it, if it’s not eliminated – in time.

Here are some additional tips to healthy skin:

Use what you have. If you don’t have access to clean water, use a tablespoon of water and mix with clay, and apply to the skin. This will help draw impurities from the skin. Use a natural oil or butter, e.g. coconut, olive, shea, mango, avocado, etc., to seal in the moisture. Rinse of course. If you want to make a more nourishing mud, as some oil to the water and clay and use to cleanse. Again, rinse, and seal with your natural oil. This will help to bring balance to your skin.

Also, make sure you are eating things that bring life and give energy. Fresh juices, fruit, vegetables are life to the body, therefore the skin. Stay away from processed sugars and if you eat meat, try to eat organic, if possible.

Another missed tip is to get some outdoor air, especially if you are out of the city, get some air and allow the sun to recharge and reset your entire system.

Exercise through breath work, stretching and being still will help you reset and bring balance. Overall, keeping things as simple and peaceful as possible works in your favor and adds to healthy skin.

Developing a routine helps you to track changes in your skin. Journaling and keeping a food diary, helps to note when changes occur and will also help you go back and see where any foods, activities, environments or situations may have caused an issue. Track those emotions, they are extremely important to your overall health.

Stay tuned. We will continue next week.
