When Much is Required, Rest is Imminent
It’s been said that if you don’t listen to your Body, it will begin yanking you by the neck! Okay, maybe not exactly. It IS true that when the Body needs rest or attention, and we don’t supply that energy, the Body will take control, usually in the form of sickness. Sometimes, it will shut down to rest.
As a skincare specialist, herbalist, massage therapist, and someone who has a personal testimony of overcoming illness and skin conditions, I share a part of my journey with you. Being sick disrupted my time, year, and life due to a two-centimeter tumor on my spine. I won’t bore you with all of the details, but it snuck in, giving me signs that even the doctors and I saw a LOT of doctors on that journey missed the diagnosis. They missed it and dismissed me! By the time I was diagnosed, my aunt was dragging me into the emergency room because I was beginning to lose the feeling in my legs. Imagine.
Okay, what does this have to do with skin, you ask?
As a holistic practitioner, I want to alert you to the largest organ in your Body. Remember, I opened this piece with, “When much is required, rest,”…blah, blah, blah.
I didn’t rest. I was working, traveling, not working, creating, stressing, attempting to live a life where there was nowhere to “lay my head,” so to speak.
My energy was low, my outlook was bleak, and all systems—integumentary (hair, skin, nails), muscular, skeletal, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, reproductive, and digestive—were screaming at me to pay attention! When I missed the signs, my symptoms kept escalating—rest was imminent.
My skin was being affected by what was happening internally and externally. My environment was stressful,; the first sign I remember seeing on my skin was dehydration. It was extremely dry. The lotions, potions and other products that I was using were not working and ya girl was ashy. I couldn’t figure it out and it would take me years to understand what was happening.
My Body was speaking, my skin was responding and speaking to me, but I didn’t understand the language, and oftentimes when we don’t understand something, we dismiss it or attribute the symptoms to “getting older.” I did have a hysterectomy - that’s another story;. However, I am sure it contributed to my entire body being out of alignment, that tumor on my spine was a direct effect of an outcome I couldn’t understand.
My skin was bruised, and I retained water. I was a mess! Thankfully, I am far on the other side of that season, and I am here to help you. My goal is to help you understand your body's language and how to disseminate the information it is relaying.
Stay tuned. I have more to share. I’ll see you all next week, and we will continue talking about the language of your skin.
Thank you for reading.
